Action stations: Six adrenaline-fuelled Sydney adventures

By Jay Chabon

So you’ve made it to Sydney, you’ve had time to relax, and now you’re looking for action.

Never fear, there’s plenty here.

Whether you prefer the spectator variety (the professionals do it so well) of Sydney adventures, or want to feel the heart-pumping sensation of getting active yourself, Sydney’s sport and leisure events won’t disappoint.

And when it’s time to chill, don’t despair, there’s a cold drink and a harbour view waiting for you.

Now an Australian is in the top world rankings again, we can feel well and truly excited by golf. (Thank you Jason Day!)

It’s one thing to enjoy a round or two with mates, but watching the pros in action can’t be beat.

At the Australian Golf Club in Rosebery these fellas will be battling it out for the Stonehaven Cup.

As well as the on-course action, there are plenty of other attractions to keep a golfing tragic entertained.

See the pros putting and tuning their short game in the practice areas.

Grab players’ signatures at the autograph station.

Or bring the kids and let them loose in the interactive zone, complete with inflatable targets and video games.

AUS-X Open

Heart-stopping racing, insane entertainment and the most unimaginable stunts on the planet.

Yes, these are the promoter’s words, but we’re in no doubt that the athletes involved in this supercross and freestyle motocross event are freaks of nature.

Anyone who can hang on to a bike while doing mid-air stunts has got our backing.

See Chad Reed – a favourite among Australian motocross riders – battle it out with his Yankee rival James Stewart, and plenty more freakishly-talented riders take on the course at Allphones Arena, Sydney Olympic Park.

Electrifying action guaranteed!

OK adrenaline junkies.

Strap yourself in for a ferociously-paced thrill-seeking spin around Sydney Harbour.

These guys don’t call themselves Thunder Jet for nothing you know!

The “thunder twist” and “extreme adrenaline” rides are sure-fired hair-raisers.

Apart from the super speed and 360 degree spins, the latter adventure passes the Opera House and many other Sydney landmarks before zooming out to the heads for a taste of the open ocean, with a jaunt under the Harbour Bridge on the way back.

It’s the jewel in the crown of Sydney’s glamorous eastern beaches.

Make it easy on yourself and let the pros at Let’s Go Surfing guide you through the Bondi surf, in a group or private lesson.

Once you’ve mastered riding the waves, why not sail sky-high above them?

Manly Parasail will have you soaring on a Sydney adventure like no other.

Apart from the awesome rush of floating in the air, the Sydney Harbour views from high are simply spectacular.

These guys will get you on a boat out of Manly, and gently winch you into the Sydney Harbour skies – at a height of some 450 feet!

“All that is required from you is to relax and enjoy the excitement and the view,” they say.

Vino Paradiso: Wine & Food Festival

The Rocks is brilliant any day of the year.

Add wine, food, beer, cider and spirits, and it’s paradise.

More than 80 wineries from 32 wine regions will descend on the harbour-side location, bringing with them more than 1000 beverages.

Are you thirsty yet?

As well as tasting and feasting (don’t worry there’s plenty of food too), take some time out to learn the professional tricks of the trade in event masterclasses and enjoy live music.
